Sponsor Signal Iduna criticizes the choreography of Borussia Dortmund fans

Signal Iduna, sponsor of Borussia Dortmund, in the person of CEO Ulrich Leitermann, sharply criticized the BVB fans for a choreography before the home game against 1. FC Union Berlin.

The BVB fans showed a choreography on the south stand that focused on the following lettering: “Forever Westfalenstadion”. That was the name of the Dortmund stadium before sponsor Signal Iduna bought the naming rights in 2006.

“For me, that’s unacceptable, considering how much we have supported this club for a long time and also stood by them when others didn’t want to give a cent more,” said Leitermann Ruhr news.

Leitermann further explained that he knew that not all Dortmund fans would support the choreography. Nevertheless, he appealed: “Accept the conditions we have! The Signal Iduna Park will be called Signal Iduna Park until at least 2031. I would like to see an appreciative approach that takes both interests into account.”

The Signal Iduna boss continued: “For us it was just a nuisance. It’s a Sisyphean task that we’ve been doing for 17 years, and there was a severe setback in the game against Union Berlin because this representation also creates images in the minds of the people.”

Borussia is to receive around 100 million euros from the insurance group by 2031. Signal Iduna holds six percent of the partnership limited by shares.
