Sports director Max Eberl reacts to Neuhaus statements

After midfielder Florian Neuhaus criticized his short playing times, Gladbach sports director Max Eberl is now reacting to his player’s statements.

“I don’t understand that the subject Florian Neuhaus is made so big,” said Eberl in an interview with Sport 1 relaxed. “In competitive football it is completely normal for the coach to choose other players as well.”

Neuhaus has “made a good development that went up very steeply and steadily. At the age of 24, we and others assess things differently,” said the Gladbach sports director. “He’s very self-critical with his performance. He scored the goal against Mainz. Those are the small steps that you need.”

Neuhaus had previously complained about a lack of playing time in the current season. “It’s not that easy for me. I’ve built up something here over three years and now I’ve noticed for myself how fast it can go in professional football,” said the midfielder after the 1-1 draw against FSV Mainz 05 DAZN.

In this difficult situation, he would have “perhaps wished for a bit more support from the club.”

Neuhaus has made a total of eleven appearances in the current season, but since the sixth matchday he has only been in the starting line-up. With his goal against the Mainz team, he entered the scorer list for the first time this season.
