Stefan Effenberg sees a lack of fitness and misses leaders at Bayern

FC Bayern may have lost the championship with its 1: 3 against RB Leipzig. For TV expert Stefan Effenberg, this had one reason above all: fitness.

One day after FC Bayern’s 3-1 defeat by RB Leipzig, there was much discussion about Bayern Munich’s first home defeat ever against the Saxons. In the “double pass” of sports1 ex-Bayern captain Stefan Effenberg spoke up.

Effenberg complained about the fitness of the record champions: “It seems to me that Bayern are not able to march for 90 minutes.” For Effenberg it is clear that this cannot be dismissed out of hand, after all there has been a tendency among Munich for some time that the performances after the break are noticeably worse than before. “It has to be related to fitness.”

Apart from that, however, there is also a lack of attitude and a lack of leadership figures in the team. You don’t play “with the heart and fitness you need to be German champions”.

Rather, there are “unlikely many construction sites” in the team. And that also meant that coach Thomas Tuchel or his predecessor Julian Nagelsmann didn’t have a real starting eleven – there weren’t eight or nine players “on whom he relied in the long run”.
