Coach Steffen Baumgart from 1. FC Köln was dismayed at the recent absence of his player Jan Thielmann.
“It’s very bitter and hurts the boy and us,” said the coach after the 0: 3 (0: 1) at VfB Stuttgart.
Under-21 national player Thielmann came on as a substitute in the 64th minute but was unable to continue in the closing stages. At first there was no diagnosis. Because Baumgart had already swapped five times, FC had to finish the game with ten men.
“Anyone who knows how attached Jan is to this sport and how humbly he practices it also knows how he is doing now,” said Baumgart: “These are bitter moments that are part of football – but too often for Jan at the moment. ” Thielmann (20) has already missed ten competitive games this season due to a viral disease and a muscle injury.
