The Bayern Munich coach’s record of his first games at new clubs

Thomas Tuchel is the new coach of FC Bayern Munich. SPOX therefore looks at its debut record at new clubs before its first game.

FC Bayern Munich has separated from Julian Nagelsmann and hired Thomas Tuchel as the new manager on the sidelines of the record champions. In his first game as FCB coach, the 49-year-old is given what is probably the most difficult task at the moment. On Saturday (April 1) in the 26th matchday of the Bundesliga, he will face league leaders Borussia Dortmund – his ex-club, the he coached from 2015 to 2017.

Thomas Tuchel: Record of the first games at a new club

FC Bayern is Tuchel’s fifth major career station, so there were four clubs before that. His coaching career started in Mainz at FSV – if you ignore his positions as youth and reserve coach at VfB Stuttgart and FC Augsburg. The Krumbacher spent almost five full years and 183 games with the 05ers. He made his competitive debut as a coach on August 8, 2009 with a 2-2 draw in the Bundesliga against Bayer Leverkusen.

In 2015 he switched to Borussia Dortmund, where he spent two seasons. It didn’t start for him in the Bundesliga back then, but with a qualifier for the Europa League. In the third round first leg on July 30, 2015, his black and yellow team beat Austrian club Wolfsberger AC 1-0.

Tuchel ended his time at BVB in 2017 by winning the DFB Cup, a year later he went abroad for the first time – to the top French club Paris Saint-Germain. In the capital he started as he had left off in Germany – with a title. Tuchel’s debut as PSG coach was in the French Supercup against AC Monaco and ended 4-0 in favor of the Parisians.

Tuchel then took over Chelsea in the middle of the 2021/22 season. He was on the touchline for the first time on January 27, 2021 in the Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The game ended goalless.

Thomas Tuchel: Achievements as a coach

Thomas Tuchel can look back on a successful career so far. He celebrated his greatest success with Chelsea when he won the Champions League in 2020/21. He was named World Club Coach of the Year for that season. But he did not remain without a trophy in France and Germany either. Among other things, two French championship titles and a DFB Cup win are on his credit side.
