FC Bayern Munich is almost overstaffed in attack. This opens up prospects for a very expensive exit.
Are Real Madrid considering signing Bayern star Kingsley Coman? As this “hot” rumor from the Spanish portal Fichajes made the rounds, things were quickly cooled down in Munich. Loud PICTURE the Bayern bosses would only start to think about an offer of more than 100 million euros. Coman had previously had thoughts of changing, but that has now changed.
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann himself said that “from a coaching point of view it makes little sense to sell him.” Whatever the rumor about a possible Real interest in Coman at this point in time or not – it draws attention to a circumstance in the Bayern squad that could become very interesting in the next transfer period: Munich are on the Offensive positions almost too well occupied.
At least one of the stars from the attack could be thinking about his future prospects with the record champions by summer at the latest. With Jamal Musiala, Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, Kingsley Coman, Sadio Mané, Serge Gnabry and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, you have seven absolute top people in the squad. Normally, however, there are only four places up for grabs on Bayern’s offensive line.
Bayern offensive: At least two top players on the bench
Julian Nagelsmann rarely plays in the 4-1-4-1 system – then it would be one more position. Nevertheless, even then two top players would still have to be on the bench. In the classic 4-2-3-1 Bayern then just three players. Of course: someone can always be injured, like the current star newcomer Mané. If the Senegalese returns soon as planned and the others stay healthy for the time being, there is a risk of a bad breath for some due to fewer minutes of play.
Coach Nagelsmann can then try as best as possible to distribute the playing times among the stars. Everyone only wants to play in the top games of the Champions League at the latest. Alone in the home game against Bochum and still without Mané, for example, Leroy Sané, visibly angry about his substitution, trudged straight into the dressing room and ignored the coach. Such or similar scenes could be seen more often after Mané’s return. All stars just can’t play the same amount.
This is certainly being observed very closely at the other top European clubs. Even if the players mentioned often have to go to the bench at Bayern: With their class they would help most other teams. This is a luxurious situation for the Bayern leadership. If a player becomes permanently dissatisfied, they could sell him at a very high price. For the second row you could then rely on young talents like Mathys Tel or Arijon Ibrahimovic. They would also initially be satisfied with a reserve role.
FC Bayern: Soon a departure for 100 million euros or more?
Musiala is seen as the club’s future and will not be up for debate. Here they are currently trying to get a contract extension or at least an increase in salary to keep the youngster satisfied. Choupo-Moting is the only real centre-forward in the squad, and he is also set to be extended. Bayern legend Müller will probably never leave the club. Neither did Mané after just one year. That leaves Coman, Gnabry and Sané.
You certainly wouldn’t sell any of the three cheaply. But because of the oversupply on the offensive, you could actually start pondering from a certain amount. And this would probably really be somewhere in the region around the magic sound barrier of 100 million euros.
