These ex-professionals are now playing in the amateur field: The Benders and Großkreutz

Professional football is the greatest thing for many. But what happens when this time is over? Numerous former (Bundesliga) professionals still play in the amateur field after their careers.

MARTIN HARNIK

  • current club: TuS Dassendorf (Oberliga Hamburg)

The Austrian kicked 240 times in the Bundesliga (66 goals) for Bremen, Stuttgart and Hanover. He has been active in the 5th division since October 2020.

NANDO RAFAEL

  • current club: FC Union Niederrad 07 (Kreisoberliga Frankfurt)

Rafael played for Gladbach, Bochum, Augsburg, Düsseldorf and a few more. At the age of 38, the German-Angolaner signed up in the eighth league.

SVEN AND LARS BENDER

  • current club: TSV Brannenburg (district class Inn/Salzach 1)

The twins started playing football in Brannenburg when they were four years old. The rest is known. Sven has an advantage over his brother in winning the BVB title.

KEVIN GROSSKREUTZ

  • current club: TuS Bövinghausen (Westfalenliga 2)

He played Bundesliga for Dortmund and Stuttgart. He became champion twice and was in the world champion squad in 2014. Landed over KFC Uerdingen at TuS Bövinghausen, where he was also an assistant coach. Now they have agreed on a separation. In the summer of 2023 he will move to Wacker Castrop.

MICHAEL PARENSEN

  • current club: Polar Pinguin (Landesliga Berlin St. 1)

The central defender played for Union Berlin mainly in Liga 2, but also had 9 appearances in the Oberhaus until 2020. After a break, he started at Polar Pinguin in February.

DOMI KUMBELA

  • current club: SSV Delrath (district league B, size 2)

The striker shot Eintracht Braunschweig into the Bundesliga with 19 goals in 2013 and also played in the Bundesliga with BTSV. After several changes, we went to Delrath in 2021.

ADAM MATUSCHYK

  • Current club: 1. FC Düren (Middle Rhine League)

The midfielder was with Cologne in the Bundesliga and played a total of 113 games. Was also active in Cologne and Braunschweig in the lower house. From Uerdingen it went to the 5th league in 2020. Most recently he even got promoted to the Regionalliga West with Düren.

LAM ZHI-GIN

  • current club: TuS Dassendorf (Oberliga Hamburg)

The former U20 national player made 20 Bundesliga games for HSV. Then it went to Fürth and China. In January 2021 he returned to his home town of Hamburg and played there with Martin Harnik.

MARCELL JANSEN

  • current club: Hamburger SV III (Oberliga Hamburg)

The home-grown player from Gladbach became champion with Bayern in 2008 and then switched to HSV, where he left in 2015. He has occasionally played in the Oberliga since 2018 and was also HSV President.

ZOLTAN SEBESCEN

  • current club: TV Unterboihingen (district league A1)

Played in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg and Leverkusen and ended his career in 2005. The 46-year-old has been playing in his native Baden-Württemberg since 2019. Was in the CL final with Bayer in 2002 and was once a German international. Still fit even at the age of 47 (!)!

MOSES LAMIDI

  • current club: Germania Ratingen (Oberliga Niederrhein)

He played twelve times for Gladbach Bundesliga and also 24 times for various clubs in league 2. After that he had several amateur stations such as Rehden, Kray and Velbert. He has been in Ratingen since 2018.

MAMADOU DIABANG

  • current club: SV Löhne-Obernbeck (district league group 2)

The Senegalese played for Bochum and Bielefeld in the Bundesliga. In Austria for Austria. Working for Löhne-Obernbeck since 2018.

MARC ANDRE KRUSKA

  • current club: FC Frohlinde (national league)

The former Dortmund player made 98 Bundesliga appearances. He also played 206 second division games for Cottbus and FSV Frankfurt. In 2019 we went from Dudelingen to Frohlinde.

MAXIMILIAN NICU

  • current club: TuS Prien (district league)

Sniffed Bundesliga air at Hertha and Freiburg. He was also active for 1860 in the 2nd division and moved from Unterhaching to Chiemsee in 2018, where he works as a player-coach. Nicu also works as an expert for DAZN.

MARCO RICH

  • current club: SC Schmittweiler-Callbach/Reiffelbach-Roth (District League West/Southwest)

One of the heroes of the Lauterer champion team in 1998. Also became champion in 2004 with Werder. After a few years in Austria, it went to the Landesliga in 2013 and was recently relegated to the Bezirksliga.

KEVIN PANNEWITZ

  • current club: Delay Sports (district league)

Played with Hansa Rostock in the Bundesliga. Since 2015 in lower class at various stations, including Carl Zeiss Jena. Active in the district league in Berlin from 2019 and now at the start for Delay Sports in the district league since 2022, in the team of Elias Nerlich and Sidney Friede.

MICHAEL FINK

  • current club: FC Gießen (Regionalliga Südwest)

Played in the Bundesliga for Frankfurt, Bielefeld and Gladbach. Won the Turkish Cup with Besiktas in 2011 and has been playing in Giessen since 2021.
