These players returned to FCB

Not many players have returned to Bayern Munich in their careers after leaving the record champions. Now the illustrious round could be enlarged. SPOX shows all FCB returnees.

SANDRO WAGNER

The original Bavarian returned to Bayern Munich in 2018 after almost ten years, but only stayed for one season and moved to China.

Wagner is now a successful TV expert and can call himself a promotion coach after returning from Unterhaching to the 3rd division.

MATS HUMMELS

Was trained at FC Bayern and switched to Borussia Dortmund in the winter of 2008, first on loan and a year later.

Eight years later, Hummels returned to Säbener Strasse – now back in Dortmund. He still has a contract until 2024.

CLAUDIO PIZARRO

Came from the Weser to FC Bayern in the summer of 2001 and left Bavaria six years later for Stamford Bridge.

In 2012 he made his comeback in Munich and was part of the triple team. He is now an FCB ambassador.

CIRIACO SFORZA

Left Munich in 1996 after just one season and moved to Inter Milan.

The return followed four years later, but it didn’t last long either. After two years it went back to Lautern.

STEFAN EFFENBERG

Left FC Bayern in 1994 and went to AC Florenz.

After another engagement at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Effe moved back to FCB in 1998, where he won the Champions League as the leader of the pack.

LOTHAR MATTHÄUS

Like Stefan Effenberg, he came from Mönchengladbach and played in a Bayern jersey for the first time from 1984 to 1988.

After a four-year interlude at Inter Milan, “Loddar” was drawn back to the Säbener.

PAUL BREITNER

The homegrown grew into a world star at FC Bayern and went to Real Madrid in 1974.

Breitner returned home four years later via Eintracht Braunschweig.

MARK MUNCH

The double returnee. Left FCB for Leverkusen in 1994, but quickly returned from there.

A loan to 1. FC Köln followed in 1998 before Bayern Münch passed it on to FC Genoa.

MANFRED SCHWABL

In 1986 Schwabl moved to the club in Nuremberg, only to return to his old place of work three years later.

Schwabl ended his career in 1997 at 1860 Munich of all places.

HELMUT WINKLHOFER

Like Markus Münch, he switched from Bayern to Bayer Leverkusen and returned after three years.

Winklhofer then ended his career in 1989 at FCB.

DOUGLAS COSTA

Played for FC Bayern from 2015 to 2017, then for Juventus. A loan return for a year followed in 2020 – with little success.

Costa fell far short of his expectations and was mostly absent injured. He’s now making headlines off the pitch.
