National player Thomas Müller received the Bavarian State Medal for his social commitment. The 33-year-old was honored on Tuesday in Munich by Ulrike Scharf, Minister for Family, Labor and Social Affairs, along with 18 other people.
He received the award for his role as ambassador for the Nicolaidis YoungWings Foundation and his associated commitment to young mourners.
“This award is inspiring,” said Müller in the Hubertus Hall of Nymphenburg Palace: “What each individual achieves here is unbelievable and exemplary.” It was “almost a bit uncomfortable for him to sit between all the people who have been so committed for a very long time.” Müller promised: “I’ll keep at it.”
The Nicolaidis YoungWings Foundation offers young people who are bereaved after the loss of a loved one individual help and advice as well as long-term support during the bereavement. Müller has been associated with the foundation for over ten years.
“Thomas Müller is there for the children and young people and gives them joie de vivre. This happiness makes life a little nicer,” said the State Ministry in the laudation for the Bayern professional.
