TSG Hoffenheim - 1. FSV Mainz 05 0-2: Third victory at TSG in a row

FSV Mainz 05 also won 2-0 (1-0) at TSG Hoffenheim and celebrated their coach after a strong start to the season.

Even in stoppage time, the Mainz fans celebrated Bo Svensson with chants. After the final whistle, sports director Christian Heidel and manager Martin Schmidt hugged the FSV trainer on the sidelines. After the 2-0 (1-0) win in the 05er, the Dane was in the center of attention at south-west rivals TSG Hoffenheim.

“It’s a continuous development under Bo. His match plan worked out well today,” said sporting director Schmidt praised the coach, who led Mainz to stay in the league last season and now to a strong start to the season with nine points in four games: “Since he’s there, he hasn’t done much wrong yet. “

Jonathan Burkardt (21st) and new signing Marcus Ingvartsen (77th), who had been substituted 80 seconds earlier, scored for FSV. The Hoffenheim conceded their first home defeat in almost half a year. Back then, too, the opponent was called Mainz.

The 8,427 spectators in the Rhein-Neckar-Arena saw a runaway game in the first few minutes. Both teams wanted to speed up, but made numerous mistakes. The offensive remained patchy on both sides at first.

Hoffenheim – Mainz: Niakhate injured replaced

After about ten minutes, Mainz managed to uncover the weaknesses of the Hoffenheim defense through their fast counter-attack. Still, the FSV needed a free kick to be dangerous for the first time. Jeremiah St. Juste failed to TSG goalkeeper Oliver Baumann (18th).

The tour of the guests shortly afterwards by Burkardt after preliminary work by Dominik Kohr was not surprising. The Hoffenheim team, who had to do without Benjamin Hübner, Ermin Bicakcic, Havard Nordtveit, Ihlas Bebou and Kevin Akpoguma, played very poorly until then. The bad pass by Jacob Bruun Larsen before the goal was characteristic.

In the middle of the first half, the encounter became increasingly hectic, both teams got down to business – referee Marco Fritz (basket) had his hands full. After about half an hour, FSV captain Moussa Niakhate had to leave the field with a thigh injury and the central defender was replaced by Alexander Hack.

Mainz 05: Joker Ingvartsen wins

The fights for every inch of lawn continued until the break. The Hoffenheimers mostly got the short straw. The team of coach Sebastian Hoeneß was not up to par in the first round, the Mainz lead was deserved.

At the beginning of the second half it was again the guests who booked the first chance through the agile Leandro Barreiro (51st). Then the Hoffenheim increased the number of strokes and pushed for the equalizer.

The FSV defense withstood the pressure phase. After 65 minutes, the Mainz team freed themselves, joker Ingvartsen, on loan from Union Berlin, stabbed.
