FC Augsburg is still waiting for its first win of the season. At Union Berlin it was only enough to score 0-0.
Markus Weinzierl laughed and patted one player after the other on the shoulder. Then the FC Augsburg coach led his team to the fans who had traveled with them and gave them applause. But his expression revealed: The coach was not completely satisfied, because the first win of the season is still a long time coming.
“The luck we needed was again missing,” complained midfielder Niklas Dorsch after the 0-0 win despite good chances at Union Berlin Sky: “Defensively we did it really, really well. Now we just need the last bit to get one in front.” After four games, the Bavarian Swabians only have two points on their account.
For the Berliners the draw meant the continuation of their home series, they have been undefeated at home for 19 games. As a result, the Iron, who are at six points, have not suffered bankruptcy this season.
“We can be satisfied with the game, but not with the exploitation of chances,” said Niko Gießelmann. It continues for them on Thursday (6.45 p.m.) for the start of the Conference League group stage at Slavia Prague.
Union Berlin: Möhwald missed the tour
On Saturday, Union had to fight off clever Augsburg side shifts in front of 10,207 spectators in the An der Alten Försterei stadium. Florian Niederlechner (5th) picked up one from left-back Iago and failed from 16 meters to Union goalkeeper Andreas Luthe. Only then did the Berliners become really dangerous.

And the goalkeeper was still in the spotlight. The following Augsburg corner was first found by Andre Hahn, who dropped on Reece Oxford (33.) – Luthe also carried the Englishman’s header over the goal.
Immediately after the break, the guests started better. The agile Ruben Vargas crossed from the left to Niederlechner (47th) in the middle, the striker put his diving header just wide of the goal. There was little offensively from Union in this phase. The fact that Friedrich (65th) headed the Augsburg cross after Christopher Trimmel’s cross was therefore quite unexpected.
Berlin counterattacks often ended in midfield, while the FCA had more of the game. Only shortly after the Unioner hit the crossbar, the substitute Sergio Cordova (66th) suddenly stood free in front of Luthe as a result of a corner, but the goalkeeper saved his team from falling behind with a lightning reflex.
On the other hand, Gikiewicz cleared after a successful attack in Berlin in dire need against Taiwo Awoniyi and Andreas Voglsammer (74th). Voglsammer also hit the post (80th).
