RB Leipzig’s false start to the new Bundesliga season is complete. Union Berlin, on the other hand, greets them from the top after their second home win.
Domenico Tedesco thoughtfully put both hands in his pockets, his players were still on the pitch shaking their heads and discussing the signs of a crisis.
The supposed Bayern challenger RB Leipzig has only two points from three Bundesliga games after a 1: 2 (0: 2) at Union Berlin – far, far too little for the star cast of the team and the high demands of the Red, who was pushed with millions -Bull project.
13:1 corner kicks and a huge increase in ball possession (74:26 percent) were not enough for the cup winners on Saturday evening to put the excellently defending Unioner in trouble. Coach Tedesco is also under pressure. “We had the goal of shifting a lot and getting over the wings again and again. We didn’t do that for twenty minutes and played something, so we immediately get the two booths,” he complained sky. “We give the ball away too easily. It’s a pity.”
Berlin protest against the “construct RB”
The efficient Europa League participant from Köpenick, on the other hand, can be very satisfied after the second win of the season. Thanks to the goals of Jordan Siebatcheu (32nd) and Sheraldo Becker (38th), the jump to the top of the table seemed possible for a long time – Willi Orban (84th) prevented this with the goal.
Goalkeeper and captain Peter Gulacsi were missing from RB due to a muscle injury in the right adductor area. Janis Blaswich was in goal for Hungary. Konrad Laimer returned to the starting XI.
In front of 21,056 spectators in the sold-out stadium at the Alte Försterei, Union had to do without the support of their fans for the first 15 minutes. In protest against the “construct” RB, the Berlin supporters remained silent, and criticism of the Leipzig football project was expressed on several banners.
Siebatcheu and Becker meet in picture book counterattacks
Leipzig was unimpressed and had advantages in the early stages. RB kept the ball in their own ranks for a long time, but hardly advanced to the last third. Long, high passes to Timo Werner also proved to be ineffective.
Union caused danger for the first time. Julian Ryerson shot from the backcourt, Mohamed Simakan saved on the line (15′). When Werner hit the post (19th), the Berliners were lucky.
Leipzig continued to determine events – but it hit Union. The Köpenickers played a perfect counterattack via Becker and Siebatcheu. Union’s fast switching game after winning the ball continued to work well. Becker increased after a strong individual performance.
After the change of sides, little changed in the course of the game – and Union deserved the win. Although Leipzig continued to have more possession of the ball, they lacked the ideas against the compactly staggered and defending Berlin defensive with a lot of effort. Union was dangerous on the counter.
