Shortly before leaving as managing director at VfL Wolfsburg, Jörg Schmadtke (58) is not aiming to return to football – but he doesn’t want to rule it out entirely either.
“I can’t answer it,” Schmadtke said table football“It may be that after three months I can’t take it anymore or, much worse, that my wife will kick me out again. To be honest, I don’t believe it.”
After all, there are “still many things in this world that I want to see and experience, that I want to take care of”. Appearances as a TV expert will “rather not exist. Unless you find a completely different format. But I don’t really like this smart ass.”
A job with the German Football Association does not appeal to him either. “Me as DFB President? That can be ruled out,” said Schmadtke, adding that he was “more of a pragmatist than a functionary.”
On February 1st, ex-professional Marcel Schäfer (38) will follow Schmadtke as sporting director in Wolfsburg. For Schmadtke, the round of 16 of the DFB Cup at Union Berlin on Tuesday (8.45 p.m.) will be his last game in office.
