After months of suffering, Xaver Schlager is fit again and has been able to play six competitive games since the end of February. The 24-year-old played himself into Florian Kohfeldt’s starting eleven again and VfL Wolfsburg should continue to rely on the ex-Salzburg player in the future. However, his contract expires in the summer of 2023.
Should the “wolves” squint towards a transfer fee, then a change of the ÖFB legionnaire should already be imminent in the coming transfer window. Once again table football reported, the club is currently trying to extend the contract with Schlager.
If Schlager decides against extending the contract, then in the summer there would probably be the only way to generate a relatively high transfer fee. In 2019, the midfield engine moved from Salzburg to Wolfsburg, at that time VfL paid around twelve million euros for his services.
