The 29-year-old German international had started the season as number one, but lost this position after three defeats in the Premier League with 0: 9 goals to newcomer Aaron Ramsdale. The 23-year-old had come from relegated Sheffield United for 28 million euros before the season.
Arsenal have won the two Premier League games since the goalkeeper change 1-0. In the 3-0 win in the League Cup against AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday, Leno was back in goal.
Leno’s contract with Arsenal runs until 2023. He moved from Bayer Leverkusen to London in 2018 for 25 million euros. In 2020 he won the FA Cup with Arsenal.
