Brighton's Moisés Caicedo begs for release on Instagram

Brighton midfielder Moisés Caicedo has made his move public in a statement on Instagram. He says he sees a January transfer as a “great opportunity” for himself and for the club to collect a record amount.

“I’m grateful to Brighton for giving me the chance to get into the Premier League. I’m the youngest of ten siblings and I come from a poor background in Santa Domingo, Ecuador. My dream has always been to be the most decorated player in the Premier League history of Ecuador,” wrote Caicedo.

“I’m proud to be able to give Brighton a record transfer fee that they can reinvest to help the club continue to thrive. The fans have loved me and will always be in my heart, so I hope that you can understand why I want to take advantage of this great opportunity,” he added.

Caicedo has reportedly attracted interest from top English clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea with his performances. According to English media reports, the Gunners have already made an offer of 70 million euros, but Brighton are currently still refusing to give up another player in the current transfer window after Leandro Trossard, who also went to Arsenal.

Caicedo is a regular at Brighton in defensive midfield. He has made 18 starts for the Seagulls this season, contributing one goal and one assist in the Premier League.

Caicedo takes loudly The Athletic did not attend Brighton’s training session on Saturday morning and will not play against Liverpool on Sunday either. The club have signaled him to stay away from the team until February 1, when the transfer window closes. However, the club expect the 21-year-old to return for the second half of the season.
