Chelsea have apparently extended the contract of new signing Enzo Fernández. According to information from the Argentine TV station TyC Sports the Londoners pulled an option in the world champion’s contract that binds him to the club for an additional season. Fernández’s contract now runs until 2032.

Chelsea signed the central midfielder just a few weeks ago for a record €121m fee from Benfica. This was preceded by tough transfer negotiations, and the deal only went through late on the deadline day of the winter changeover period. In the end, Fernández got his dream transfer to the Premier League and a contract dated until 2031.

The 22-year-old has already stressed that he feels at home in the English capital and that he chose Chelsea because of the “long-term project”.

Chelsea, meanwhile, also have major sporting problems after the Fernández transfer. However, the Argentinian still makes a decent impression and mostly shows good performances. So far he has made 13 appearances for his new club, providing two assists.

Fernández hails from the River Plate youth team. There he made his breakthrough in 2021 after a loan to Defensa y Justicia before Benfica brought him to Europe in the summer of 2022 for around 45 million euros. This was followed by the blockbuster deal with Chelsea last winter.
