Chelsea – Will the new sporting director come from the Champions League opponent?

After Graham Potter’s coaching commitment, Chelsea FC apparently considered another personality: How CBS Sports reported, US investor Todd Boehly is said to be in talks with RB Salzburg’s Christoph Freund in search of a sports director.

The Salzburger should “lead the race”, reports CBS Sports-Reporter Ben Jacobs. In addition, there should have been further discussions. Boehly is a fan of the RB model and would like to implement that for the Blues as well.

What is exciting about the Chelsea rumors about Salzburg’s sporting director is the clash between the two clubs on Wednesday evening in the Champions League (09/14/22, 9:00 p.m.). Although Freund isn’t really involved in day-to-day sporting activities, it causes unrest in the upcoming opponent’s club. After his active career, the 45-year-old started as a team manager at Salzburg in 2006 and worked his way up internally. Since July 2015 he has been active as sports director.

Several names were recently circulated for the post. As well as AS Monaco’s Paul Mitchell, who “really wants the job”, according to Jacobs, Luis Campos is said to have been high on the list. The Portuguese most recently worked as a sporting director for LOSC Lille and is currently employed by PSG as a consultant. There he is an external agent, which means that he is actually available, but contractual clauses are intended to complicate a change.
