Maria KeaneRomelu Lukaku from Chelsea has called on football and its representatives to take “stronger” measures in the fight against racism. In addition, the 28-year-old questioned the effect of kneeling before games.
“We could basically take a stronger position,” said Lukaku at CNN and referred above all to the racism on social media: “We get on our knees and in the end everyone claps, but after the game you read the next insult.” Lukaku’s team-mate Marcos Alonso recently announced that he would not kneel and instead show the “No to Racism” symbol on his jersey.
According to Lukaku, important players should seek an exchange with the heads of the social media platforms in order to tackle the problem of racism. “We should all sit down and talk about the things that need to be addressed to protect the players,” said the Belgian
He added: “We as a club, from the owner to the players, should make a statement right now and take a position that such things will not be tolerated.”
