Maria KeaneThe move of former Dortmund Bundesliga striker Alexander Isak from Spanish first division side Real Sociedad San Sebastian to Newcastle United is perfect. As the Premier League club confirmed on Friday, the 22-year-old Swede signed a long-term contract after the successful medical check.
Although the Saudi club did not name any exact transfer modalities, according to Spanish media reports, Newcastle should transfer at least 70 million euros, which could increase with further bonuses.
The Swedish national player replaces the Brazilian Joelinton as a record purchase, for which the “Magpies” paid 44 million to Hoffenheim in 2019.
“He’s an outstanding talent,” said Newcastle team manager Eddie Howe. Isak is “technically very good” and has “traits” that would help the team. In addition, he is at a “great” age when he can still grow with the club.
For BVB, who signed the Swede in January 2017 as a 17-year-old for 8.6 million, Isak remained goalless in five Bundesliga games. He scored 33 goals in 105 league appearances for Real Sociedad.
