An English football fan has been banned from the national stadium for four years for mocking the 97 deaths at Hillsborough.
The 33-year-old wore a Manchester United shirt with the number 97 and the words “Not Enough” at the FA Cup final on June 3. On April 15, 1989, there was a fatal crush at Sheffield’s Hillsborough Stadium – the dead were fans of Liverpool FC, United’s rivals.
A court also sentenced the man to a fine of 1,000 pounds (approx. 1,170 euros) on Monday. According to the English media, he accepted the verdict with a smile. The man who was taken into custody during the final between United and Manchester City (1-2) had pleaded guilty.
The Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance, which represents the interests of the survivors, reacted with horror to the jersey, as did the English Football Association FA. “We would like to thank the FA, the police and security staff at Wembley Stadium for their quick action and arrest. We would also like to thank the messages of support we have received from all true Manchester United fans and fans of other clubs “, announced the organization.
