Haaland and De Bruyne make Citizens dream of a triple

Manchester City celebrates its super duo Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne – and dreams more than ever of the first triple.

“Tormonster” Erling Haaland celebrated his next record in the demonstration of power in the league “final” shirtless and grimacing in the dressing room – but his congenial partner didn’t want to know anything about a premature title party. “So much can still happen,” warned Kevin De Bruyne. But “the deadly duo” (BBC) even makes Manchester City dream of the first triple in the club’s history.

Haaland and De Bruyne – they are a dream couple like the Beatles heads John Lennon and Paul McCartney or the crook duo Bonnie & Clyde, tweeted expert Jan Aage Fjörtoft. City team manager Pep Guardiola raved about the “extraordinary connection” between the offensive tandem and said: “Kevin is the master of templates, whether Erling plays or not. Erling scores without Kevin. But together they are extremely dangerous.”

League leaders FC Arsenal felt this most painfully on Wednesday evening. De Bruyne scored twice in the impressive 4: 1 (2: 0) – each on template from Haaland. The Norwegian completed the game with his 49th goal of the season in 42 games. It was his 33rd Premier League goal, beating Mohamed Salah’s (Liverpool FC 2018) record for a season of 38 games.

Only one goal separates the exceptional striker from the best of English football legends Alan Shearer (Blackburn/1995) and Andy Cole (Newcastle/1994), who had 42 games to play. Nobody doubts that Haaland will do it and that City will win the championship for the fifth time in six years – right?

Will Manchester City draw level with United?

“It may sound naïve, but we’re still behind Arsenal,” Guardiola warned. The Gunners still have a two-point lead, but City have played two games fewer. “It’s Haal over,” she punted Sun therefore, everything is over. Haaland and De Bruyne literally “tore up” the opponent in this “execution”, wrote the Daily Mail under the line “Simply De best”, the star saw the rival “De-stroyed”, destroyed.

Guardiola played a major role in this, dissolving his double eight with Ilkay Gündogan and De Bruyne and giving the Belgian a freer role alongside the captain. “Pep is god,” tweeted Edel fan Liam Gallagher, once the lead singer of Brit pop icon Oasis.

In the remaining seven games, there is no longer a top 7 team waiting for City, who, like last year, will face defending champions Real Madrid (9/17 May) in the semi-finals of the Champions League. The FA Cup final is on June 3 against city rivals United.

He is the only English club to date to have won the “Treble” (1999). Can the sky blues follow suit? The way is still “long”, said De Bruyne and referred to the dangers of the “hectic” schedule. Even the successful defense of the title in the league “won’t be easy,” emphasized Guardiola, “but we have to seize this opportunity”.
