In Manchester, Harry Maguire is only second choice. Will he follow Sergio Ramos at PSG?
PSG have their eye on Manchester United’s England international Harry Maguire. That’s what the English tabloid claims The Sun. Accordingly, the top French club had already tried to get the defender in January, but a deal failed because time was running out at the end of the transfer period.
Maguire is under contract with ManUnited until 2024 and is actually the captain there. He is still considered a candidate for sale, as he lost his regular place under Erik ten Hag. Lisandro Martínez and Raphael Varane usually make up the Carabao Cup winner’s centre-back duo instead.
PSG could reposition themselves in the defensive center in the summer, when the contract of 36-year-old Sergio Ramos expires. According to the Sun I had an offer for Maguire “on the table” in January and the annual salary of around 11.7 million euros is not a problem for PSG. With Milan Skriniar, however, a top-class defender is already coming from Inter Milan on a free transfer.
Maguire comes from the Sheffield United youth team, where he gained his first experience as a professional. In 2014 he moved to Hull City for a fee of around three million euros. It was followed by a loan deal to Wigan Athletic and then the breakthrough in Hull. In 2017, Leicester City bought him for almost 14 million euros. Two years later, the Red Devils shelled out 87 million euros for him.
Maguire made 21 competitive appearances for United this season. In 15 of these games, the 30-year-old was on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.
