"I am devastated"

Coach Thomas Tuchel spoke for the first time about his surprising expulsion from Chelsea. The 49-year-old was released after a mixed start to the season.

“This is one of the most difficult explanations I’ve ever had to write – and I hoped I wouldn’t have to do it for many years,” wrote Tuchel in the introduction Twitter and admitted: “I’m devastated that my time at Chelsea is over.”

The German felt “at home both professionally and personally” at the club in London. “Thank you to all the staff, the players and the fans who made me feel welcome from the start,” he added.

Tuchel continued: “I will always remember the pride and joy I felt in helping the team win the Champions League and the Club World Cup. I am honored to have been part of the history of this club to be, and the memories of the past 19 months will always have a special place in my heart from the start.”

The former BVB coach, who led Chelsea to the Champions League title in 2021 just a few months after taking over, had to retire early in the season after finishing sixth in the league and losing 1-0 in the premier class at Dinamo Zagreb take.

Tuchel had probably fallen out with the Chelsea boss

In addition to the stutter start, personal differences with the new owner Todd Boehly are said to have led to the dismissal, including different ideas in the squad planning.

A short time later, the Blues had presented a successor in Graham Potter. According to the club, the 47-year-old is “one of the most exciting coaches in football”. He had previously caused a sensation with Brighton & Hove Albion.
