Jörg Schmadtke is apparently the new sporting director of Liverpool FC. As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports, he is said to have promised the Reds.
An agreement is therefore imminent. In the future, Schmadtke will take over squad planning and transfer strategy alongside coach Jürgen Klopp.
There had already been rumors last week about Schmadtke’s commitment to Liverpool FC. The Wolfsburg General reported a possible assumption of office on June 1st.
Schmadtke, who had worked as a manager at Alemannia Aachen, Hannover 96, 1. FC Köln and most recently at VfL Wolfsburg and had reached the European Cup with all clubs, retired into private life at the end of January.
The Reds are currently fighting to qualify for the Champions League. Meanwhile, Klopp’s side are fifth in the Premier League.
Due to the more than mixed season, a major squad change is planned for the upcoming summer transfer window. Schmadtke would therefore play a key role in this.
