Kai Havertz on the dispute between Tuchel and Conte: "I thought it was great"

National player Kai Havertz forms the German faction at Chelsea with team manager Thomas Tuchel. Havertz sees his recent skirmish with Tottenham coach Antonio Conte, for which Tuchel was suspended, as anything but negative.

“I thought it was great. We noticed that on the pitch too and when you see that the coach is doing everything off the field to ensure that we win the game, then that drives you twofold and threefold,” said the ex-Leverkusener sky.

He also accepts his situation as the last German professional in the Blues without much nostalgia. “I’m not sitting at home crying every night now. That’s the course of every footballer and you just have to respect it,” said the 23-year-old offensive star from London.

Havertz had played for the Blues with Antonio Rüdiger and Timo Werner for the past two years. Defender Rüdiger switched to Real Madrid for the new season, Werner recently returned to RB Leipzig. They won the Champions League together in 2021, Havertz scoring the winning goal in the 1-0 win over Manchester City in the final.

“They were close friends of mine. That’s why it always hurts when they take a different path and you saw each other every day for two years before that,” said Havertz: “The two are not out of the world, you can keep in touch , see each other again with the national team, so that’s okay.”
