City goalscorer Kevin De Bruyne had trouble with the Gunners fans in Manchester City’s 3-1 win in the Premier League’s top game against Arsenal on Wednesday night. The Belgian reacted promptly to the beer mugs thrown in his direction with an Instagram post – and thus had the laughter on his side.
Arsenal fans had two reasons not to speak well of De Bruyne. The 31-year-old first gave the visitors a 1-0 lead with a great long-range goal after intercepting a back pass from Takehiro Tomiyasu that was too short.
He also clashed with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta early in the second half. After he played a ball away to prevent De Bruynes from throwing in quickly, Arteta pushed away with both hands, got the ball and pointed his index finger at the Spaniard on the way back to the sideline – which of course was greeted with boos .
When De Bruyne was substituted in the 87th minute – before that he had also prepared Erling Haaland’s 3-1 lead – several beer mugs flew towards him on the way around the corner flag to the bench, at least one of which just missed him. However, KDB was not influenced by this and continued in a good mood.
About an hour after the final whistle, De Bruyne then reacted to the beer mug throws in his Instagram story – and how: First he posted a photo of himself with the caption “Has anyone a beer?” Only to then post a photo that shows the cup sailing past his head. “Thanks!” he wrote about it.
City had a good reason to smile after the win: The defending champions moved past the top of the table thanks to the three-pointer and are now ahead of Arsenal on goal difference. However, the Gunners have played one game less.
