Premier League club Leicester City have parted ways with manager Brendan Rodgers. The Foxes had picked up just one point in their last six league games and lost to second division side Blackburn in the FA Cup. The champion of 2016 is threatened with relegation.
Leicester had tried for a long time with the Northern Irishman, although the whole season is already going badly. Since the start of the season, Rodgers’ team has been stuck at the bottom of the table.
After the 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace, which was also threatened with relegation (30 points, 12th place), the Foxes ultimately decided to part ways. Palace had achieved this important victory directly after a change of manager: in the first game after the comeback of coach Roy Hodgson.
Rodgers had coached the team since February 27, 2019, and his contract would have run until 2025.
Leicester City owners: ‘We were convinced of continuity and stability’
Leicester City’s Thailand boss Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha explains in a club statement why they had waited so long despite a poor season: “We believed that continuity and stability would be the key to a course correction, especially given our previous successes under Brendans Management. Regrettably, the desired improvement has not materialised, so with ten games left of the season the board are forced to take alternative measures to safeguard our Premier League status.” In the games, everyone in the club environment should fight for relegation.
