Liverpool and Manchester City fail - Chelsea extend table leadership

Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea FC won the long-distance duel for the championship lead in the Premier League. The Blues prevailed 3-0 (0-0) at Newcastle United on Saturday. Chelsea remain at the top with 25 points, but rivals Liverpool and Manchester City stumbled.

For Chelsea, with national players Kai Havertz and Antonio Rüdiger in the starting line-up, Reece James (65th / 77th) and Jorginho (81st, penalty) scored.

Liverpool did not get past a 2-2 (2-1) draw despite the lead by Jordan Henderson (4th) and Sadio Mane (24th) against Brighton & Hove Albion. Team manager Jürgen Klopp’s Reds have to be content with second place for the time being (22 points). Still, a record fell that afternoon: Liverpool have now been unbeaten for 24 competitive games in a row – the last time the Reds succeeded in doing that in 1989.

Manchester City also suffered the next setback after being out of the league cup. After the red card for Aymeric Laporte (45th + 2), Pep Guardiola’s team was outnumbered for one half and lost to Crystal Palace 0: 2 (0: 1). City is third with 20 points.

Arsenal FC, with national goalkeeper Bernd Leno on the bench, prevailed 2-0 (2-0) at Leicester City in the afternoon and initially climbed to fifth place (17) and thus to an international place. Gabriel gave the Gunners an early lead (5th), a little later Emile Smith Rowe hit the final score. The decisive man on the way to victory for the Gunners was the one who pushed Leno out of the gate.

Arsenal keeper honored by legend Schmeichel

Aaron Ramsdale showed a world-class performance over 90 minutes, which even the father of Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel deserved respect. After a crazy free-kick save, Peter Schmeichel tweeted: “This is the best save I’ve seen in years.”

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United can still pull by in the evening (6.30 p.m.). For coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer it could be the last game as team manager of the Red Devils after the 0: 5 last week against Liverpool and the ongoing negative trend in the event of another bankruptcy.
