Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen says he received hate mail and threats on social media after Liverpool’s Darwin Núñez was sent off.
“I got maybe 3-400 of these messages last night. I understand you guys are supporting a team but have some respect and stop putting it on online,” the 26-year-old wrote in a story on Instagram.
In addition, Andersen published some screenshots of the messages, in which he was called a “damn disgrace” and a “cheater”. The central defender even received death threats.
“I hope Instagram and the Premier League do something about it,” Andersen concluded his story. Noisy Daily Mail Crystal Palace is said to have called the police to investigate possible prosecution.
Núñez saw the red card in the 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Palace after a headbutt on Andersen. Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp had criticized his offensive player afterwards: “You shouldn’t behave like that,” said Klopp. “That was definitely the wrong reaction. We don’t want to see that. He has to learn from it.”
