Liverpool FC - Anfield Road is being expanded: All plans and costs and at a glance

Coach Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool FC can look forward to even more spectators on Anfield Road. As the club confirmed on Wednesday, a grandstand of the legendary stadium will be expanded.

The Liverpool city council had already granted building permission in June for an extension of the Anfield grandstand by 7,000 additional seats. This would bring the total capacity of the stadium to 61,000. Construction work is scheduled to begin in the coming week.

The current Anfield grandstand will be retained and renovated, while a new upper tier will be built above it. An improved entrance area, a sports bar lounge and a covered family park are also being built. The costs for this amount to around 70 million euros. The project should be completed by the 2023/24 season.

The club has meanwhile received approval to hold up to six concerts and other major events in the stadium for five seasons.

Anfield: Social commitment and around 400 new jobs

The main contractor for the project will be Buckingham Group Contracting GmbH, which will also promote a number of social activities with the LFC’s “Red Neighbors” initiative. The main focus is on the issues of food poverty and education at local schools.

The jobs created by the project will also include around 35 internship positions and more than 800 weeks of apprenticeship and training during the construction phase. After completion, around 400 new jobs should be available for local employees.
