Liverpool have signed Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig

Hungary’s football star Dominik Szoboszlai could not resist the lure of money and Jürgen Klopp: The attacking player is moving from DFB Cup winner RB Leipzig to Liverpool FC and will be the protégé of team manager Klopp. The transfer fee for the Magyar is fixed at 70 million euros.

“They were intense and, above all, successful years at RB Leipzig. A new chapter is beginning for me at Liverpool FC, and it’s an extraordinary opportunity for me to take the next step in England,” said Szoboszlai. Nothing was initially known about the contract period.

“Dominik Szoboszlai made an outstanding leap last season and has matured into a leading player at RB Leipzig,” said Leipzig’s sporting director Max Eberl. The change is “another honor for us as a club and for the work that is done here to take young players to the next level”. Due to the contractually fixed, but also very valuable exit clause, Leipzig’s hands are tied, so we have to let him go”.

The fact that Klopp and Liverpool’s sporting director Jörg Schmadtke have increased interest in 22-year-old Szoboszlai has already become known in the past few days. The Hungarian moved from RB Salzburg to Leipzig in 2021, and he could have competed again in the Champions League with the Saxons. In Liverpool, only the Europa League is initially waiting.

A transfer in the opposite direction had already been fixed since Friday afternoon: Portuguese top talent Fabio Carvalho was loaned out by the Saxons from Liverpool for a year. The 20-year-old offensive player should take the next development step at RB, a purchase option was not anchored. Liverpool are also said to have turned down a longer loan.
