Manchester City are apparently in positive talks with Mateo Kovačić

Manchester City are apparently in concrete talks with Mateo Kovačić. This is reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Croatian’s contract with Chelsea runs until 2024, so this could be a good moment for both sides to say goodbye. After their transfer offensive last year, Chelsea want to continue to change the squad and would only collect a transfer fee for the 29-year-old this summer.

Recently rumors circulated that Thomas Tuchel wanted to guide his ex-protégé from their times together at Stamford Bridge to FC Bayern, but now, according to Romano, City is said to be in “positive talks” with the midfielder’s agents.

Kovačić comes from Dinamo Zagreb youth and joined Inter in Serie A for €11m in January 2013. The potential of today’s four-time Champions League winner did not go unnoticed by Real Madrid, who put almost 38 million euros on the table for the Croatian in the summer of 2015. After three years full of titles but without regular playing time right from the start, Kovačić first went on loan and then permanently to Chelsea in the summer of 2019 for 45 million euros.

The 93-time Croatia international is a regular with the Blues. This season Kovačić has 37 competitive games, two goals and two assists.
