Contrary to some speculation about changes, Pep Guardiola is planning at Manchester City beyond the summer with national player Ilkay Gündogan.
“If you ask me: I want him here next season. There’s no thought that he might not be there,” the Catalan clarified ahead of Sunday’s season finale against Aston Villa.
Recently there had been speculation in the English media about the future of Gündogan, who is still tied to City until 2023. “If he wants to leave – we don’t know anything about it,” said Guardiola and scoffed: “If all the Twitter accounts say he’s leaving – I don’t know anything about it. Maybe they have more information than me or the club, I have no idea.”
According to SID information, there should be talks between the two parties after the season at the earliest. Gündogan had agreed on this with City a long time ago. From the point of view of the former Dortmund player, it would also be possible to only talk about the future after the start of the coming season. Gündogan was the first Guardiola transfer for City in 2016.
