National player Ilkay Gündogan from English champions Manchester City highlighted the extraordinary qualities of the new goalscorer Erling Haaland. “Anyone who scores 25 goals in 20 games fits into a team! Our game has become a bit different thanks to Erling’s qualities. Both he and the team have to adjust to it,” said the 32-year-old in the sky-Interview about the ex-Dortmunder.
The club have “already made outstanding games in this constellation, and I can remember that a few weeks ago everything was being hyped”. “It’s important for the team to stay calm. We have to realize that we weren’t good enough in the last few games – that applies to everyone.” Everyone has to look in the mirror and know “that they have to step up their game. If we want to close the gap to Arsenal, we can’t afford to make any more mistakes.”
The current season is a very demanding one for all ManCity players. “Arsenal is currently playing at a very high level, Manchester United is breathing down our necks. The teams are getting better every year,” said the native of Gelsenkirchen: “Overall, the challenge is getting bigger and bigger. Against us – a team that has been in the last five won four championship titles in years – most opponents are certainly extra motivated to make life particularly difficult for us.”
