Manchester City is about to transfer Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea

The transfer of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea to Premier League rivals Manchester City is taking concrete shape: As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports, the Skyblues have agreed with the Croatian international on a change this summer.

According to Romano, the last hurdle on the way to completion is the agreement between the two clubs. According to City, this should be achieved in negotiations in the days after the Champions League final on Saturday against Inter.

Kovacic is aiming for a transfer after four years with the Blues, he publicly announced this a few days ago. With a year left on contract and a bloated squad, Chelsea should also be open to a transfer.

Kovacic had also been traded as a possible newcomer to FC Bayern a few weeks ago, but this had not materialized.

Mateo Kovacic went to Chelsea in 2019

With Jorginho joining Arsenal in January and N’Golo Kanté on the brink of a move to Saudi Arabia, a Kovacic exit meant no member of Chelsea’s midfield trio of 2021 Champions League victory remain at Stamford Bridge .

Kovacic made his breakthrough at Dinamo Zagreb and moved to Inter Milan in 2013 for eleven million euros. In 2015 he was transferred to Real Madrid for 38 million. After spending a year on loan at Chelsea, the Londoners signed him on for €45m in 2019.
