Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur follow Man City into the round of 16

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur completed their FA Cup duties and advanced to the Round of 16 on Saturday.

England’s record champions United defeated Reading FC from the second-rate championship 3-1 (0-0). The Spurs won 3-0 (0-0) at Preston North End from the 2nd division.

United were only able to convert their dominance into goals in the second half in front of over 73,000 spectators at Old Trafford. A goal by Marcus Rashford in round one was denied recognition after video evidence. Casemiro broke the spell after preliminary work by his Brazilian compatriot Antony (54th).

The 2-0 was also a co-production of two Brazilians: This time Fred hung up, Casemiro was the scorer again (57th). Fred then scored the 3-0 himself (64th). Amadou Salif Mbengue scored the consolation goal for Reading (72′). Ex-national player Andy Carroll on the Reading side saw the yellow-red card in the 66th minute for repeated foul play.

Tottenham also struggled in vain for a half. Then it was the former Bundesliga star Heung-min Son who decided the game with his two goals (50th, 69th) in favor of the Premier League top team. Substitute Arnaut Danjuma finished the game on his Spurs debut (87′). The Dutchman only moved to London on loan from Villarreal during the week.

England’s champions Manchester City had already reached the round of 16 on Friday evening. In the top duel against Premier League leaders FC Arsenal, coach Pep Guardiola’s team won 1-0.
