Bruno Fernandes drew the wrath of ex-Red Devils captain Gary Neville during Manchester United’s 7-0 defeat of arch-rivals Liverpool. The reason for this was a gesture made by the Portuguese in the final stages, when he was obviously upset that coach Erik ten Hag hadn’t replaced him.
Neville co-commentated the game Sky Sports and said of a scene apparently not caught by the cameras: “Bruno Fernandes stood in the center circle and waved his arms to say, ‘Why isn’t it me that’s being substituted?’ To be honest some of his actions in the second half were disgraceful.”
Said scene happened in the 84th minute right after Mohamed Salah’s goal. Ten Hag decided to bring Anthony Elanga into the game, Marcus Rashford had to step down for the young attacker.
With the 7-0 loss at Anfield, United not only received one of the most violent clap in the club’s history, but also said goodbye to the title race in the Premier League. It was also a hard landing for Fernandes and his team-mates after winning the League Cup a week ago.
Fernandes, who switched from Sporting to United in 2020 for 60 million euros, is having a good season. The 28-year-old scored seven goals and eleven assists in 40 competitive games for the English record champions.
