Curious story about Christopher Nkunku: Manchester United scouts allegedly didn’t have the 24-year-old offensive man from RB Leipzig in their register until the very end.
Told in a YouTube interview with Stretford Paddock ESPNJournalist Mark Ogden said that when new coach Ralf Rangnick took office in December he asked the club’s scouting department for their reports on Nkunku.
“Then they shook their heads and said, ‘He’s not on our list,'” Ogden said. According to Ogden, Rangnick replied: “Come on, this is the best young player in Germany at the moment, he will soon be a French international. He scores a lot of goals. This is a player that everyone needs to know.”
Nkunku has scored 29 goals in 42 competitive games this season. He recently made his debut for the French national team. His contract runs until 2024, and several top European clubs are said to be interested in him.
