Moisés Caicedo extends his contract at Brighton & Hove Albion

Midfielder Moisés Caicedo has renewed his contract with Brighton & Hove Albion. As the English first division club officially announced, the Ecuadorian international has signed a contract that runs until 2027 with the option of another season.

Caicedo’s extension comes as a surprise. A few weeks ago he was still vehemently pushing for a transfer and publicly begged for his release with a post on Instagram. Arsenal FC and Chelsea wanted to sign Caicedo at the time.

Brighton are said to have turned down a €70m offer, among other things. Caicedo was temporarily not in the Seagulls squad because of the changing theater.

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi was delighted with his top star’s new contract: “This is fantastic news for the club, for our fans and most importantly for Moisés. It will make us even stronger on the road, our goals on the pitch to reach.”

The 21-year-old joined Brighton in 2021 from Independiente del Valle for €5m and went on loan to Beerschot to become one of the Premier League’s best central midfielders. He has made 25 competitive appearances this season, scoring one goal and one assist.
