Newcastle United roll over Tottenham Hotspur

Newcastle United have their sights set on a return to the Champions League after a more than 20-year hiatus after an impressive win. On Sunday, team manager Eddie Howe’s team beat Tottenham Hotspur 6-1 (5-0) in the English football championship and led the Londoners, especially in the early stages.

Goals from Jacob Murphy (2′, 9′), Joelinton (6′) and Alexander Isak (19′, 21′) gave Newcastle a 5-0 lead after just 21 minutes. Despite the lightning start, the team narrowly missed a record: Manchester City was even faster in 2019 and were already 5-0 up against Watford FC after 18 minutes.

Harry Kane (49′) scored for Tottenham shortly after the break, Callum Wilson (67′) hit back a little later. In the table, Newcastle are third with 59 points, while Tottenham (53) are fifth.

Newcastle last played in the premier class in the 2002/03 season. Less successful years followed with the descent in 2016 as a sporting low point. After the entry of a consortium led by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund Public Investment Fund in October 2021, Newcastle gradually fought their way to the top flight of the Premier League.
