Former football star JJ Watt and his wife Kealia are investing in English football. The athletic couple – Kealia Watt was a US national soccer player – announced their commitment to Premier League promoted Burnley FC on Monday.
“When you invest in a club that was founded in 1882 you have to have a lot of respect for tradition and history,” JJ and Kealia Watt were quoted as saying on the Clarets’ website. “We don’t just invest in the team and the coach, we also invest in the city and its people.”
Women’s football in the club should also be further promoted. Financial details of the commitment were not given.
Burnley FC return to top flight as champions of the Championship. The team manager of the two-time English champions (1921 and 1960) is former star defender Vincent Kompany. The stadium Turf Moor offers space for 22,000 spectators, the club was one of twelve founding members of the 1888 launched Football League.
