Maria KeaneChelsea have loaned out their winter signing Andrey Santos to his former club Vasco da Gama. The two clubs involved officially confirmed this on Thursday. The business runs for just under four months until the end of June.
“He now has the opportunity to develop at this level,” Chelsea wrote on his website.
Chelsea wanted to join Santos in the winter but he couldn’t get a work permit in England due to the tough regulations. Having played in the second division with Vasco last season, he has not been classified by the authorities as an exceptional player to whom an exception can be made. So Chelsea had no choice but to temporarily park Santos at another club.
Due to the short term of the loan, it can be assumed that Chelsea will make another attempt to bring Santos to England in the summer so that the attacking player can play there as well.
The Blues paid 12.5 million euros for the 18-year-old in January and provided him with a contract that runs until 2030.
“The story continues,” Santos wrote on his Instagram account.
Santos recently shone with Brazil’s U20s at the South American Championship. There he led the team as captain to the title. He scored six goals in eleven U20 international matches.
