Premier League agrees to sell Chelsea

The sale of the English top club FC Chelsea to an investor group around the American entrepreneur Todd Boehly is getting closer.

Now the Premier League has approved the multi-billion dollar deal. However, the approval of the British government is still pending. The club of the German coach Thomas Tuchel had recently agreed with the investors on a purchase price of 4.25 billion pounds (around 5 billion euros).

Great Britain had frozen the assets of former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich – including the Champions League winner – because of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. The government wants to ensure that the Russian oligarch does not personally benefit from the sale.
