Ralf Rangnick mad at scouting department because of Nkunku

For Ralf Rangnick, his involvement with Manchester United apparently began with a negative surprise. In December 2021, the German coach had to realize that the scouts of the English record champions were not familiar with one of the best players in the Bundesliga.

At least that’s what it reports ESPN-Journalist Mark Ogden in a YouTube interview at Stretford Paddock. Specifically, it was about RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku. Accordingly, Rangnick wanted to see United’s scouting reports about the Frenchman – and, according to Ogden, got a headshake and the amazing statement: “He’s not on our list.”

Nkunku had scored seven goals in six games in the Champions League group stage at the time, including a hat-trick in a 3-6 draw at United’s local rivals Manchester City. Rangnick is said to have been correspondingly stunned. “Come on, this is the best young player in Germany at the moment, he will soon be a France international. He scores a lot of goals. This is a player everyone knows about,” quoted Ogden Rangnick.

It is unclear whether Nkunku will find their way to the island in the summer. The 24-year-old has had an outstanding season at Leipzig and was involved in 29 goals in 28 appearances in the Bundesliga alone before the match between Leipzig and TSG Hoffenheim on Matchday 29. He recently made his debut for the national team. Above all, his ex-club Paris Saint-Germain is traded as an interested party. Nkunku’s contract in Leipzig runs until the summer of 2024, with a transfer fee likely to be in the region of 70 million euros.
