Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison has revealed his former coach Antonio Conte once gave him a two-hour lecture at a team meeting. This was preceded by Richarlison’s criticism of Conte after Tottenham were eliminated from the Champions League.
“Of course I made a fool of myself when I said in the interview that I needed time and everything else. But it was after the Champions League elimination and I apologized to him,” the Brazilian said on the podcast Que Papinho.
The Italian coach didn’t let that sit and then squashed him in front of the assembled team. A reaction that Richarlison can understand with hindsight. “He also has to be tough with the group to show that he’s there, that he’s still in charge. That’s his way of dealing with people, with the group. He spent almost two hours trying to get me put it down in front of everyone in the session,” he explained.
Conte signed Richarlison from Everton at the start of the 2022/23 season but the striker has struggled with form and injuries, scoring just one Premier League goal.
