Another bad news for Jürgen Klopp: Virgil van Dijk is not available to Liverpool FC for the time being.
Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk suffered a hamstring injury in the Reds’ 3-1 defeat by Brentford. Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp had substituted the Dutchman at the break, but according to information from SPOX and GOAL brought nothing: Van Dijk will miss the upcoming FA Cup clash with Wolves and his participation in Brighton on January 14 is also questionable.
This is bad news for Liverpool, because the defense has been very vulnerable recently. After the long absences of Diogo Jota and Luis Díaz, it is the next personal setback for coach Jürgen Klopp. At least the Reds can hope for the early return of Roberto Firmino (calf) and James Milner (thigh), while new signing Cody Gakpo could make his FA Cup debut.
31-year-old Virgil van Dijk continues to be the central figure in Liverpool’s defence. Before being substituted at Brentford this season, he made 17 Premier League appearances for the Reds, not missing a minute.
