3rd league: Elversberg and contractions weaken

Table leaders SV Elversberg have to cope with a period of weakness in the final spurt of the season in the 3rd division. The Saarlanders lost 2-0 (0-0) at Borussia Dortmund II on matchday 34, but remain first with 67 points.

The game of pursuer SV Wehen Wiesbaden (63 points) against SV Meppen had to be interrupted for almost half an hour in the first half due to an injury to an assistant referee before a replacement was found. Linesman Timon Schulz had a twisted ankle and had to be carried off the field. Wehen surprisingly lost 1: 2 (1: 1) and could not capitalize on the Elversberger bankruptcy.

“For me, the solution in the future can only be to have a fourth referee in the 3rd division. You have to think about it seriously. I don’t know how it’s planned, but that would be the consequence for me,” said guest trainer Ernst Middendorp.

Dynamo Dresden, who were relegated to the second division, missed the opportunity to get closer to the top teams. The Saxons drew 1-1 (1-0) at SC Freiburg II and are fourth in the table with 60 points. Since Freiburg, in second place (64 points), are not allowed to move up, Wehener and Dresden still have good chances in the promotion race.

Justin Njinmah (36th) and Falko Michel (61st) scored for BVB II. Ivan Prtajin (14th) scored the 1-0 for Wen, but Marvin Pourie (25th) managed to equalize for Emsländer, who were threatened with relegation. Willi Evseev (84th) made it 2-1 for the Meppen team and sealed the second win in a row. Ahmet Arslan (28th) scored the Dresden opening goal in Freiburg, Oscar Wiklöf (55th) made it 1-1.

Erzgebirge Aue and Viktoria Köln separated 1:1 (0:1), FC Ingolstadt won against SC Verl 3:1 (2:0). Promoted SpVgg Bayreuth lost to MSV Duisburg 0:4 (0:1).

Waldhof Mannheim was already in the promotion race on Friday evening. The ex-Bundesliga team won against Hallesche FC 4-1 (2-1).
