3rd league: Promoted VfB Oldenburg is relegated directly

1. FC Saarbrücken finally helped SV Elversberg to advance to the 2nd Bundesliga. The Saarlanders did not get more than 2:2 (1:2) at MSV Duisburg, despite a double majority in some cases, and with 66 points they can no longer overtake table leader Elversberg. Meanwhile, VfB Oldenburg has been relegated.

Jonas Michelbrink (27th) and Dominik Becker (41st, own goal) scored for the Meidericher. Calogero Rizzuto (38th) and Kasim Rabihic (56th) were successful for Saarbrücken.

MSV had lost Tobias Fleckstein with a yellow-red card for repeated foul play (30th). Later, Duisburg’s Marlon Frey was sent off after an assault (75′) with a red box. Saarbrücken’s Manuel Zeitz also saw red (85th) because of an emergency brake.

Meanwhile, promoted VfB Oldenburg has to return to fourth division. The Lower Saxony lost on Sunday against relegated FSV Zwickau 1: 2 (1: 0) and occupy the relegation place 17 with 35 points.

Rafael Brand (6th) scored in front of 4893 fans for the Oldenburg lead, Dominic Baumann (46th/90th + 3) made the turnaround. Oldenburg’s Marc Stendera saw the yellow-red card for unsportsmanlike behavior (85th).

The deficit to Rot-Weiss Essen and Hallesche FC is five points, which can no longer be made up for on the 38th and last matchday next Saturday. Oldenburg had to host the encounter because of the state gymnastics festival in the Jade Stadium in Wilhelmshaven.
