Bayreuth suspends ex-lion Felix Weber after drunken rioting in ice hockey

Central defender Felix Weber has been suspended by his club, SpVgg Bayreuth. Previously, the 28-year-old is said to have caused riots on the sidelines of an ice hockey game under the influence of alcohol.

According to media reports, Weber was involved in a violent confrontation during the DEL2 ice hockey game between the Bayreuth Tigers and the Ice Pirates from Crimmitschau on Sunday and even attacked the police.

A blood test ordered by a judge revealed an alcohol level of three per mille in the blood of the former captain of TSV 1860 Munich.

Bayreuth’s sporting director and managing director Michael Born said in a statement that Weber was “excluded from training and games until further notice”. And Born continued: “We sought a short-term conversation with Felix to hear his point of view. We want to get a comprehensive picture of what happened in the coming days and will then discuss how to proceed.”

The SpVgg regrets “that we are in connection with such an incident at our sporting neighbors. I would like to apologize to the Bayreuth Tigers and the Ice Pirates from Crimmitschau on behalf of the whole club”.
